Abstract

Caesarean section is an obstetric surgical procedure with a continuously increasing incidence in Indonesia, reaching 17.6%. This procedure commonly uses spinal anesthesia, which can cause lower extremity motor block and requires recovery time. Delayed motor recovery, indicated by a high Bromage score, may prolong hospital stay and reduce patient comfort. Non-pharmacological interventions such as Foot Massage are considered to accelerate motor recovery. This study aimed to determine the effect of Foot Massage on Bromage score achievement in post-caesarean section patients with spinal anesthesia at RSUD Kota Salatiga. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only control group approach. A total of 30 respondents were divided into intervention and control groups using consecutive sampling. The intervention group received a 6-minute Foot Massage according to SOP, while the control group received no intervention. Bromage score was assessed 30 minutes after the intervention. Data analysis used the Mann–Whitney test. The results showed that most participants in the intervention group experienced faster motor recovery with lower Bromage scores compared to the control group, with a p-value of 0.002. It is concluded that Foot Massage has an effect on Bromage score achievement in post-caesarean section patients with spinal anesthesia.
